Spring on the canal path

A short walk that tells you something about your grips.

· Anika Joshi

April is a hard month for grips. The air is damp, hands are cold, and any grip that was already tired looks even worse.

A towpath walk along the canal, on a day when you are tempted to leave the clubs at home, is a good time to notice how your hands feel. If you are squeezing harder than usual, the grips are probably worn.

A simple test

Hold the club in your normal grip and ask someone to pull gently at the clubhead. If you grip tightly to hold on, the surface has lost its tack.

Regripping a set takes about forty minutes and costs less than most people expect.
